Rev. Frank Naylor has died

Rev. Hannah Lewis has been in contact to inform us of the sad news Rev. Frank Naylor has passed away. He was chaplain at St Helens Deaf Centre and later for the whole of Liverpool diocese (including Southport) for over 25 years.

Frank was also made a Canon of Liverpool Cathedral in recognition of his service, and after retirement in 2006 had a ministry there for some years.

No funeral details are available at the moment.

Happy New Year!

Hope 2022 will be a better year for everyone.

The Management Committee is aware Covid cases have risen over the festive period. We are monitoring the situation, but for now, the Centre will reopen as usual next week.

If any member feels unwell or tests positive for Covid, we would advise you to stay at home.

The Tuesday Club will be having their AGM on 11 January as planned.

If things change, please keep an eye on here for any updates.

Christmas hamper winners

The Tuesday Club had their Christmas meal at the Centre yesterday. Everyone enjoyed the food superbly presented by Tomlyn Caterers.

Mike Goodfellow made a generous donation of £150 instead of giving out individual Christmas cards. Thank you, Mike.

The draw for the Christmas hampers took place after the meal, and the winners are listed opposite. Thank you to Dorothy Caven for organising this fundraiser on behalf of the Management Committee.

Happy belated 85th Birthday Brenda!

Brenda with her flowers

14 members attended the Tuesday Club this morning. We had a game of Play Your Cards Right with Mavis Husbands as host. Quite a few laughs were had, and the cards were definitely against us and Mavis!

We celebrated a belated birthday of one of our members, Brenda Osborne, who turned 85 in August. Brenda received a card and flowers.

David Salisbury donated £6.02 to the Management Committee from 1p and 2p coins he has been saving. Thank you, David.

Also added to MC funds today was £7.56 from one of our collection buckets.

Rev. Hannah resigns from Management Committee

Sadly, Rev. Hannah Lewis has had to leave her job as priest within the Deaf community.
This means she will no longer be running church services at our Centre. It also means that Hannah has resigned from the Management Committee.

Hannah’s statement about the change to her circumstances can be read opposite.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Hannah for her support to our community and for the advice she has given over the years.

Tuesday Club restarts after 18 month shutdown

16 members attended the Tuesday Club today. It was good to see everyone face to face after so long.

It is Barry Miller‘s special birthday on Thursday, so a card and voucher was presented to him from us all.

A donation of £40 was given by Mike Goodfellow for Management Committee funds. Thank you, Mike.

Rev. Hannah Lewis came to tell us about changes with her job within the Deaf Church, and what it means for us at the Centre. Further details explaining about this will be added here soon.

Centre re-opens after 18 months

The Centre re-opened yesterday for the first time in 18 months. 10 members of the Saturday Club met and played bingo. Two donations of £20 and £5 were given to Management Committee funds.

The Tuesday Club restarts this week on 7 September. Please note access is restricted to members only for the time being.

A programme of activities has been put together by the committees of both groups, and these can be viewed on our website and will be updated regularly. A printed copy will be available at the Centre as well.

It has been agreed by both Saturday and Tuesday Club to increase the entry fee from £1 to £2 to help raise much-needed funds.

Several measures have been put in place at the Centre to ensure everyone’s safety. Please follow the guidance that is on display and any information the Management Committee provides.

Further announcements about the Church and other groups will be given in due course.
